Easter Bunny visits New Windsor on Sunday

Hello New Windsor. My parents Butch and Rita are celebrating their 49th Wedding Anniversary on April 11. I love when my parents tell stories about how they met and the early days of their courtship. My Dad says that my grandparents (Mom’s parents) didn’t like him at first and were not thrilled that he was dating their daughter because he was Italian and from Downtown Poughkeepsie and they were Irish from Hopewell Junction.

The first time that my dad went to dinner at my mom’s house my grandmother made Leg of Lamb for dinner. Dinner went well, conversation was good, and when my Dad got up from the table he said “Mrs. Kiley the dinner was delicious and that was the best Roast Beef that I have ever had!” I guess it was awhile before he was invited back for another meal.

He says that once they got to know him he grew on them and they accepted him for the person he was and not for where his family was from. Having two sons, and six grandchildren my parents are very quick to tell anyone that asks about their family how blessed they are. But it is me and my brother Mike and our families that are so blessed to have them as parents, in-laws, and grandparents, and we thank God every day for them both. Happy Anniversary Mom and Dad we all love you both so much!
