Elfriede Kiraly, of the Town of Newburgh, entered into rest on Friday, January 12, 2024. She was 88.
Daughter of the late Siegfried and Frieda (Schwarz) Madlener, she was born on September 2, 1935 in Sulz (Vorarlberg), Austria.
A longtime area resident, Elfriede moved with her family from Queens in 1969. She was mainly a homemaker who enjoyed and excelled at quilting, gardening, landscaping, cooking and baking. She was a parishioner of Sacred Heart Church. She met her husband of 62 years, the late Michael Kiraly, a native of Hungary, at Joan of Ark High School, NY, NY, while attending night classes to learn English in 1958.
Survivors include daughter Linda Kiraly (Brian Bormann) of Fort Worth, TX; two sisters, Eugenie Pfaffstaller and Irma Poeder, both of Austria; two grandchildren, Eric and David Bormann; many nieces and nephews and great nieces and nephews.
In addition to her parents she was predeceased by her husband, Michael Kiraly in September 2023; and her son, Michael Joseph Kiraly in 1986. Her sister Margarethe died in 2022.
Private cremation has taken place at Cedar Hill Crematory.
