Ferry Crossing construction OK’d

Newburgh City Council approved with a six member one abstention vote to enter into an agreement for easements with the Ferry Crossing Condominium complex on Monday, January 9. According to Michelle Kelson, the city’s Corporation Counsel, the on-going North Interceptor Sewer Replacement Project along Water Street has lines that run under the development site.

City contractors will need to enter onto the property to conduct their required construction with 56 parking spaces for the residents taken offline for a time; however with the agreement, the city would conduct certain fire hydrant work and conduct flow tests during the project. The easement timeframe is from 2023 to 2025, but the construction is projected not to be the entirety of that time. City Engineer Jason Morris clarified that construction would be projected to be concluded by Summer 2024.

Additional easements have been discussed with Regal Bag Studios, which are also located on Water Street.

Addressing the limitations of parking, the alternate side parking restrictions on Montgomery St would be lifted to accommodate additional parking, and a new lot is anticipated to be created for the complex.

Morris also addressed the council that on-going communication with the Ferry Crossing board would take place to keep residents informed.
