Four soloists highlight GNSO Holiday Concert

Posted

The Greater Newburgh Symphony Orchestra (GNSO) will perform its second annual Holiday Concert on Saturday, December 15, at 4 pm at Aquinas Hall on the Mount Saint Mary College campus in Newburgh. “A Thrill of Hope,” under the direction of Maestro Russell Ger, will feature Schubert’s “Ave Maria” and an array of beloved seasonal classics, including “Greensleeves” and “Jesu, Joy of Man’s Desiring,” and Hanukkah favorites, as well as more secular fare like “Let it Snow,” “White Christmas” and “Winter Wonderland.”

“Last year’s inaugural Holiday Concert set an attendance record for the GNSO, and I have every hope that we surpass it in 2018.” Ger said. “Holiday music appeals to a broad audience, cutting across age and religious lines. Last year’s concert established two new traditions, the first being the participation of four exciting young soloists. The second was the audience joining our musicians and singing the closing Holiday medley with us. We will have four soloists again this year, and we certainly believe that audience participation will equal or surpass last year,” he noted.

Tickets – Balcony $50, Reserved $40, Open $35, Senior Citizen $25 – can be purchased online or at the door. Call 913-7157 or visit newburghsymphony.org. Students are admitted free to open seating. The snow date for the concert is Sunday, December 15, at 4 pm.
