GNSO opens season with ‘A Delightful Diversion’

The Greater Newburgh Symphony Orchestra (GNSO) opens its 2023/24 season on Saturday, October 7 at 7:30 pm at Aquinas Hall on the Mount Saint Mary College campus in Newburgh. Maestro Russell Ger says that “A Delightful Diversion” offers something for all musical tastes, some of it spectacular.

“Many orchestras offer a potpourri of mixed delights for their season opener, and this year we decided to follow suit,” Ger noted. “We begin with John Adams’ high-octane fanfare Short Ride on a Fast Machine, which is followed by the lilting mellow sweetness of Dvorak’s Humoresque. The Dvorak will feature our very own Concertmaster Adrienne Harmon and Principal Cello Naomi Lisowski as soloists. We then turn to Poulenc’s quirky and imaginative Concerto for Two Pianos, a work that veers from the gorgeously lyrical to the flippantly zany, featuring the mother-and-son duo of Michelle and Chris Kuo. To round out the evening, we have the thunderous roaring of Tchaikovsky’s Symphony No. 4.”
