Goldbacks fall to Pine Bush, 14-1

Newburgh’s boys’ lacrosse team has been in many close games when one quarter goes wrong.

And then it becomes a fight to stay in the game, and that happened Monday, April 22 in Pine Bush when the Bushmen led 1-0 at the end of the first quarter. Pine Bush scored six more goals in the second quarter to lead 7-0 at the half.
Dylan Lasota scored a goal in the fourth quarter for Newburgh. But the Goldbacks were unable to slow the Bushmen, and they were sent home with a 14-1 loss.

“We’re trying to play catch-up from there,” said Jimmy Horton, of that bad quarter striking his team.

The Goldbacks dropped to 1-8 with a depleted roster playing on spring break and other issues.

“I still have a lot of guys playing in their second year,” said Horton.
Steve Gage scored Pine Bush’s first goal in the first quarter, and he led the Bushmen with three goals. Jack Galloway, Brayden Velasquez, Kevin Brown and Nate Jaloszynski each scored a pair of goals. And Frank Wise, Derek Serviss and Kyle Jaloszynski each added a goal for the Bushmen.

The Bushmen improved to 4-6 after being on spring break a week earlier when they beat Clarkstown North and lost to Lourdes, both Section 1 teams.
