Guns for protection

With all of the current news about gun violence in America, one incident makes it apparent that having a gun for protection can give people a false sense of security. After an online search for information about the incident, I’m absolutely certain that Robert Dotson of Farmington, New Mexico would be alive today if he didn’t own a pistol for protection.

On April 5, Farmington Police went to Mr. Dotson’s home at 5305 Valley View Avenue because of a domestic violence call for help, but they were supposed to go to the house across the street at 5308 Valley View Drive. After the police banged on his door Robert opened his door holding or pointing a pistol and the police shot him dead. Dotson’s wife then had a brief gun fight with the police that didn’t injure anybody. At some point during the gun fire the Dotson children called 911 about the battle.

If Mr. Dotson didn’t open his door with a gun in his hand to protect his family, he’d still be a member of his family.
