Kathleen Ann Cranston Grant, 52, passed away at home on January 24, 2019, in Newburgh, surrounded by her loving family and friends after a courageous battle with metastatic sarcoma.

Kathy was born on April 17, 1966 in Suffern, NY, to the late John Cranston, and Sandra (Gould) Cranston. She was predeceased by her sister Donna Cranston. Left with fond memories are her loving husband Brian Grant of Newburgh; mother, Sandra Cranston of New Windsor; sister Susan Gucciardo (Jim) of New Windsor; nephew Anthony “AJ” Gucciardo of New Windsor; nephew William Dedes (Kim) and his children Luke, Liam, and Landon of Garner, NC; niece Arlene Gucciardo (Ashley) of Newburgh, , mother in law Louise Grant, of New Windsor, brother in law Andrew Grant of New Windsor, NY and her godson Owen Scott, of Wallkill. She also leaves behind several aunts, uncles, cousins, and a host of loving friends.

Kathy had a special bond with her canine companions, her Shih Tzu Mini and Spicy who survive her, as well as her dog Sheana, who predeceased her.

Kathy grew up in New Windsor and graduated from Newburgh Free Academy in 1984. She graduated from the paralegal program at Mercy College in 1988 and worked with the law firm of Thomas J. Murphy in Newburgh, and later became the President of JT Abstract Title Insurance Agency in Newburgh.

Kathy will be remembered as a quick witted woman with a sense of humor that brightened the lives of those around her.

She had a caring heart and always did her best to help others in need. She was truly a survivor, living many happy years after defeating breast cancer. Kathy spent her younger days going on frequent cruises to the Caribbean with friends, and went to many concerts by her favorite “hair bands” of the 80’s and 90’s. In recent years she became a big Kid Rock fan, going to several of his concerts, and her musical taste evolved to include modern country music too. Kathy always loved the beach, and in recent years has been able to spend some much deserved time relaxing down at the Jersey Shore, on Long Beach Island where she loved to soak up the sun, and read novels. She enjoyed decorating her shore house, and always left an open invitation for all of her family and friends to join her at her favorite place, the beach.

A memorial service celebrating her life will be held from 1 to 4 p.m. on Saturday, February 2 at Brooks Funeral Home, 481 Gidney Avenue, Newburgh.
