For 26 years, the Orange County Citizens Foundation Board of Directors selects a citizen worthy of receiving the Ottaway Medal. Named in honor of Ruth and James Ottaway, prominent philanthropists and successful business leaders dedicated to improving quality of life in our county, the Ottaway Medal is awarded each year to a citizen who embodies their community leadership and commitment. The Board has recently announced that this year’s recipient will be Linda S. Muller, President and CEO of Cornerstone Family.

Since 1991, Muller has served at the helm of Cornerstone with a mission to ensure that every person in our community has access to quality health care. Under her leadership, Cornerstone currently operates in 16 medial facilities in four counties. A highly regarded and respected leader in the health care field, Linda has been recognized by national, state and local organizations for her commitment to distinguished service to improving the health status of the medically underserved. Her dedication to community is evident in her service on Boards of Directors, including the NYS Council of Non-Profits, HV Economic Development Corp. OC Chamber of Commerce, Affinity Health Plan, where she serves as Secretary, and in her service as the Chairwoman of the Healthcare for the Homeless Committee for the National Association of Community Health Centers and the Community Health Care Association of NYS.

A lifelong Orange County resident, Muller attended Washingtonville High School and SUNY Orange before obtaining her Bachelors of Arts from SUNY Buffalo and Master’s of Science in Health Policy and Administration from New School University’s Robert J. Milano School of Urban Studies in Manhattan. She and her husband of 47 years, Charles, live in Cornwall. They have three children and six grandchildren.

The medal ceremony and dinner will take place on Wednesday, June 3 from 5:30 to 8 p.m. at Anthony’s Pier 9 in New Windsor. (It was originally scheduled for April 30.)
