Steven Majano, a former campaign aide to State Senator James Skoufis has announced his candidacy to fill an at-large seat on the Newburgh City Council. He made the announcement last Saturday at the Faded Barbershop on Liberty Street.

A native of Newburgh, he studied at Drexel University and worked as a policy advisor for Kevindaryán Luján - Orange County Legislator and worked on the campaigns of Chris Eachus for State Senate and Antionio Delgado for Congress.

“Something needs to change. Year in and year out for as long as I can remember, the City of Newburgh has lacked a plan,” Majano said at his campaign kickoff. “Even though we have a plethora of problems. Now is the time for action. If we continue moving without a plan the city will be lost. If we continue doing what we are doing the city will be in debt. Taxes will skyrocket, rents will rise. and families will be displaced.

“I am not saying it’s going to be an easy fix , but decisive leadership is needed to guide our city in the right direction. I won’t be able to do it alone. I need all of you. Together we can bring change. Together we can lift our community. With all of us working side by side we can create change.”

He will be on the ballot at the June 25 Democratic Primary.
