Mattisse Hemingway, 89, a retired nurse at St. Luke’s Hospital, Newburgh and a long time area resident, entered into rest on December 29, 2019.
The daughter of the late James and Christine (Davis) Rainer, Mattisse was born Dec. 24, 1930 in Florence, SC.
Mattisse was the last of her generation in our family. She was one of those mothers who was so close to her family. She knew if something was wrong with any or us.
Mattisse is survived by her children, Tony and his wife, Chris, of Modena, NY, Therisa of Hempstead, NY, Michael of Boston, MA, Byron or Palo Alto, CA, David Hemingway, of Newburgh, and Natalie Angela Hemingway also of Newburgh; 19 grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren; her siblings, Bob Bryant, Janie Gaskins, Margaret Gross, Herbert Belton, James Belton and Fred Belton.
