Meet Pete D’Antonio and Conley

Hello New Windsor! Being the Director of Parks and Recreation, I get to meet a lot of really good people, many of whom are Law Enforcement Officers.
One of these fine people I have met is Pete D’Antonio who is a Special Agent with the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives, a Federal Law Enforcement agency.

Pete is stationed out of the New Windsor area but covers the whole state and beyond if his duty calls. And as much as I like Pete, I like his partner even more. His partner Conley, is a three year old Black Lab, who is an Explosives Detection Canine.

Conley can detect over 20,000 different scents of explosives, firearms, ammunition, etc. I met Pete last year when they were doing some training in our park. Pete was gracious enough to bring Conley to our three Sumer Camp locations this summer as well as last and did some demonstrations for the campers. Conley was a true pro sniffing out the training explosives, or shell casings that were hidden in the middle of a big athletic field.

It was an amazing site to see Conley and Pete work together to find what they were searching for. And as amazing of a Law Enforcement Canine Conley is he is an even friendlier dog who all of the campers got to meet and pet and take pictures with. I myself have an affinity for labs currently having two as pets, Homer and Captain. Homer and Captain are quite amazing too. Now they can’t sniff out 20,000 different scents of explosives and firearms like Conley, but they definitely can sniff out 20,000 different food scents, and will come running if they hear anyone quietly open the refrigerator or a packaged food item even if they are on the other side of the house.

Thank you to Special Agent Pete D’Antonio and Conley for coming to our camps and teaching all of the campers about all of the amazing work you guys do for the ATF!
