Newburgh Red Storm captures title

The Newburgh Red Storm 14U baseball team became the first team in the program to win a Greater Hudson Valley Baseball league championship when they scored a 12-1 five-inning win over the Valley Pirates in Saturday’s 14U Division 4 championship game at New Windsor Little League Park.

The game was originally scheduled for Friday night at Rogers Park in Danbury, CT, but was postponed due to weather.

The Red Storm got on the board early, scoring six runs in the first inning and shortened the game with another six runs in the bottom of the fourth inning.

Antonio Vinciguerra had two hits and stole two bases. Kellen Plier hit a triple and scored a run. Lucas Lynch hit a three-run triple to put a cap on the game in the fourth inning.

While the offense was hitting, Tyler Ostrander was dealing on the mound. He went the distance, allowing only one run on two hits, and struck out three batters.

The 16U Red Storm advanced to the championship game on Sunday against the seventh-seeded Mahopac Indians on Sunday.

Game results were unavailable at press time. They advanced to the championship game with a 5-4 win over the top-seeded Somers Red Storm.

Dan Decker and Forest Mitterbauer combined for the win on the mound, allowing only two earned runs.

Logan Gilbert had two hits, two runs scored, two stolen bases and an RBI. Liam Clark singled home two runs and hit a sacrifice fly.

They posted a quarterfinal win over the Putnam Valley Tigers.

The 15U Red Storm was eliminated in the quarterfinals by an 11-7 loss to the seventh-seeded Heat. The Red Storm were the second seeds in the 15U Division 4 tournament.

The Newburgh Knights 11U and 13U teams were both eliminated in the first round.

The 11th seeded New Windsor Cyclones 12U team was eliminated from the D3 first round by No. 6 Somers Red Storm.
