Happy Mother’s Day!

Over the years, I have been blessed with many different types of women who have helped me to become the mother I am today. The best comment from a child happened just recently for me. My daughter Dena told me that she has to remember all the things I’ve done for her to help make her life easier. This statement made me proud and tearful but, what she doesn’t realize is that those actions where taught to me by my Mom, Myra Dickson. I love to tease my Mom but she has always had her children’s backs. When money was tight, Mom would always make sure the refrigerator had food, our health needs where met, we had a roof over our head if our lives changed, drove us 40 miles one way to work at 5 a.m. because we couldn’t afford a car and so much more. She worked her whole life for her children to have more.

The simplest things make Mom happy now a days, reading the books of her favorite authors, Tommy and Wanda taking her for Lasagna, Johnny bringing Newburgh Lunch hot dogs, George or I grabbing her a DD coffee and now Lemon Ice Cream from Mary Janes. It’s the simple things she appreciates.

I’ve seen my Mom make all her children, grandchildren, our friends and even co-workers lives easier at times by just being herself. For that Mom, we Love You from the top of the totem pole to the bottom.

Second, I have to wish Ginny Gross, George’s Mom a Happy Mother’s Day. You raised a beautiful son whose gives me the world and takes care of his family when and where ever needed. I don’t know what your special skill was but thank you and Love You!

Lastly, a wish of strength, perseverance, willpower, tears of joy, to every mother out there. It doesn’t matter how you became a mother, your heart walks around outside your body for the rest of your life.

This is a wonderful story for this week, fits the theme. On April 13, 2019 the NFA Key Club hosted their annual Warm Beginnings Baby Shower, filling the lobby of St. Luke’s Hospital with $10,000 worth of baby goods that were donated and collected throughout the year. These items included diapers, wipes, lotions, onesies, hand knitted blankets, baby hats, car seats, swings, toys, and many other items to be given to new mothers who do not have anything to bring home with their babies. The items are given to the NICU floor and the nurses distribute them throughout the year. This year’s donations included volunteers and items collected from the Cornwall High School Key Club, Bronx Science High School Key Club, Circle K Club of SUNY New Paltz, PetSmart of Newburgh, Knittastics group from the Gardnertown Methodist Church, Knights of Columbus, St. Luke’s Ladies Auxiliary, and the Kiwanis Club of Newburgh event Chairpersons Brittani Turner and Beth Hoeffner. Thank you to everyone who participated and donated to this great cause.

The Community Garden Club of the Hudson Valley is holding the Annual Plant and Bake Sale with a White Elephant Table on May 11, 9 a.m. – 2 p.m. at Moulton Memorial Baptist Church, 54 Little Britain Road, Newburgh. Please come out rain or Shine and support this wonderful fundraiser.
