Hello New Windsor. May 17 will be my 13th anniversary as the Director of Parks and Recreation for New Windsor. One of the town board members who has given me so much support in my entire 13 years on the job is Deputy Supervisor Patricia Mullarkey. “Pat” is the Recreation Liaison for the Town Board and I have worked with her closely for years on many of our events and programs including New Windsor Community Day which she was one of the founding members for along with former Town Councilwoman Susan Weyant who passed away in 2012.

Pat has a love for New Windsor like no other and she knows how important Recreation is to a community. She has done so much for New Windsor over the years being a member of the Town Board as well as with all of the committees she has been a part of and with all the volunteering she has done.

Last week Pat was honored as a Women Of Distinction by Assemblyman Colin Schmitt of the 99th District. The inaugural 99th Assembly District Women of Distinction event was held at the Orange County Emergency Services Center. This official State Assembly government event was created to recognize women from across the Assembly District who have made significant contributions to their communities and the 99th Assembly District. Pat has been a resident of New Windsor for 56 years and serves as the Deputy Town Supervisor.

Pat has also been a Town Councilwoman since 1996. Pat has been a member of the Orange County Empire Zone, and a past member of its Executive Zone Board. Pat serves as the Chairwoman of the New Windsor’s Friendly Visitors Program, and a Trustee of the National Temple Hill Association. Pat has served on the Facilities Steering Committee for Newburgh Schools. She is a 55 year Member of the Catholic Daughters of the Americas, and a member of Sacred Heart Church.

Congratulations on your award it is so well deserved.

There will be a Memorial Day Eve service of memory, grief, and hope on May 26 at 5:30 p.m. at the New Windsor Cantonment. This 6th annual Community Remembering Ceremony welcomes civilians, veterans, and military personnel to come together to remember stories related to war and military service that we “tend to ignore, want to forget, yet need to remember”.

This year the service will include the NY Warrior Promise Wall, a display created to remember the stories of those who have taken their own lives, and to bring awareness to the crisis of active duty and veteran suicide. The service will include story sharing, music, and rituals of remembrance. The service is sponsored by the Greater Newburgh Interfaith Council and Vet2Vet, and will include faith communities from throughout the area. It will take place at the Temple of Virtue in the New Windsor Cantonment, located at 374 Temple Hill Rd. (Route 300), adjacent to the Purple Heart Hall of Honor, in New Windsor, N.Y.

The Senior Matinee movie is held every Tuesday at the Marasco Center at 11:30 a.m. The movie for Tuesday May 21 is “Green Book.” Bouncer Tony Lip is hired by African-American musician Don Shirley to chauffer him around the Jim Crow South in 1962 for an eight-week concert tour. The mismatched men form a friendship as Tony learns first-hand the racism Don must endure to perform.
