Primary updates: Bedetti now hold 3-vote lead

Revised City of Newburgh numbers push Shakur past Mehar

The Orange County Board of Elections have made updates to their unofficial primary results as of Thursday, July 6 at 4:53 p.m. with Stephen Bedetti leading in the Republican Primary for New Windsor Supervisor against Colin Schmitt. The City of Newburgh Democratic Primary retained candidate Robert McLymore for the open councilman at-large seat. Now with the latest update, Councilman Omari Shakur has emerged as the latest leader against his opponents. 

Orange County has now reported Bedetti has recorded 763 total votes with Schmitt at 760 total votes in New Windsor. Two write-ins remain accounted for in the reported count. In the previous week [June 26-30], Schmitt took the primary lead with 754 total votes recorded while Bedetti took 751 total votes on the day. A three-vote difference between each candidate in New Windsor both last week and this week [July 3-7] have been recorded.  

In the City of Newburgh, the Democratic Primary resulted in McLymore collecting 459 votes on Tuesday, June 27. His total vote count has now risen to 487 total votes. Fellow Democratic candidate Anusha Mehar had emerged as a leader in the primary race with 386 recorded votes. The third highest number of votes on that Tuesday night was Shakur at 359 votes total. Shakur has now recorded 395 votes as of July 6 and Mehar has recorded 391 votes, a four vote difference now. Candidate Gay Lee’s numbers updated to 128 votes and Bryan Luna’s numbers updated to 230 votes. Ten write-ins remain recorded by the county and the total number of votes in the city increase to 1,641. 

As of Thursday afternoon, Absentee, Early Voting, Election Day and Affidavit ballot numbers have all been fully reported and recorded on the county website for public viewing. The only category not accounted for by the county at the time of this update has been the audit section.
