Recreation plans back on the table in New Windsor

Plans for the future of New Windsor recreation returned before the New Windsor Town Board on Monday, October 2 with the emphasis on having a new indoor gym facility as a priority. The proposed location for a facility of this caliber was Kristi Babcock Memorial Park along Mt. Airy Road.

The town has been discussing a long-term recreation plan that would hopefully see new amenities be made available to the public. A new indoor facility at Kristi Babcock would replace the former facility that is currently at Stewart Airport which is in need of repairs. For now, six new pickleball and two basketball courts for additional resident recreation were planned to be installed.

As the discussion of a new indoor gym facility continues, Councilwoman Eve Lincoln presented to the board Monday night the current plan that the Town of Newburgh was pursuing for a recreational facility, a single floor multi-purpose facility with three courts, a full track, multi-use rooms and offices.

Another amenity that Councilwoman Lincoln would like to see implemented at the park would be the inclusion of a splash pad site for the community. A new parking lot would also be a possible addition.

If the board did not want to move on the large scale site, a smaller splash pad at Ruscitti Park would be an alternative for community enjoyment.

The town is also working towards upgrading their sewer water treatment plant which is set to be a major expense for the town as it has been needed for some time.
