As November brings the beauty of fall into full swing, you can expect to see breathtakingly beautiful works at the Wallkill River School’s November Solo Exhibits! Solo shows by local pastelist, Vaune Sherin, artist, teacher and Wallkill river school gallery director, Liam Vogel, and Montgomery based painter, Shane Daley will be on display throughout the month of November.

Liam will be showcasing a diverse collection of pastel paintings, and watercolors, featuring evocative lighting, and a nocturnal theme. Vaune will be exhibiting a collection of vibrant and energetic pastel still lives and landscapes featuring local scenery, and Shane will be displaying his newly produced landscape paintings, which are reminiscent of the expressive realism found in the painting of the late Bob Ross. Shane will also have some newly produced ornamental paintings, for the holiday season.

There will be a reception for the artists on November 3 from 5-7 p.m. (refreshments served, free and open to the public) featuring an artists’ demonstration/talk on nocturne painting (paintings evocative of night time) at 6 p.m., provided by Liam Vogel. Wallkill River School of Art is located at 232 Ward St. in the Village of Montgomery, and is always free and open to the public.

Vaune Sherin is a long-term resident of Maybrook who studied art at Orange County Community College, and received a BA from SUNY Binghamton with a concentration in painting. Her early experience was in the art department of a silk screener for the garment industry. Sherin eventually branched out into larger projects, particularly set/mural painting. she painted two murals in the children’s room of the library in Maybrook.

She has also painted numerous sets for the Valley Central High School performing arts department. Vaune considers herself a pastel painter focusing on still lives and plein air landscapes, and her work is clearly defined by her delicate treatment of texture and light. She studied pastel with Shawn Dell Joyce for several years. A represented artist at the Wallkill River School of Art, she also belongs to the Goshen Art League, and exhibits frequently with both groups. Her love of nature and the beauty of the Hudson Valley inspire her artwork. Liam was born and raised in Montgomery. From a young age, Liam had an interest in the visual arts. He started his art education as an adolescent working in charcoal, and taking beginner level classes at the Wallkill River School. In 2010 Wallkill River School founder Shawn Dell Joyce officially took Liam on as her protege, and spent the next several years training him in pastel painting techniques. After working with several other WRS instructors in several different styles and mediums, Liam pursued his formal art education. He returned to work at the Wallkill River School where he is a primary instructor, and the Gallery Director. Liam struggles to define his body of work with a single descriptor, mostly due to the massive diversity found in the work he produces.

Originally from Newburgh, Shane Daley moved to the Village of Montgomery in 2001. After a lifelong interest in art, Shane studied illustration while in school. In time, he set aside his passion for art for a varied career path and to start a family, after which His artistic skills were used for drawing cartoon and comic characters for his children.

In 2013, Shane’s wife gave him oil paint supplies for Christmas, in an attempt to reconnect him with his passion and talent. Taking up art again, Shane put brush to canvas, something he had not done in many years. Shane found interest in the fast paced, direct approach of the late Bob Ross, whose wet into wet painting techniques spoke to Shane. Shane soon started channeling that style of work in his paintings, and made it his own.
