Superintendent’s contract extended through 2028

The Newburgh Board of Education voted 5-2 on Tuesday, December 12 to approve the amendments to the contract for Superintendent of Schools Dr. Jackielyn Manning Campbell. The amended contract extends Manning Campbell’s term to December 11, 2028.

Within the contract language along with the extension, the retiree health insurance article language now states that the district would contribute 90% of the premium cost for individual or family coverage of the superintendent. This would only be possible if the superintendent works at least five years prior to retirement in the district. The In lieu of Processing Charges (Article 12) was approved to be deleted in its entirety and all provisions of the superintendent’s contract and first addendum agreement unaltered by the terms set forth would remain in full force and effect.

Board of Education President Darren Stridiron and Vice President Deb Bouley were not present at the vote Tuesday night, while board members Renee Greene and Jerry Ryan Lamar voted against the contract.

“Whether or not my contract is extended, now or after the budget process, you can see I’m not asking for financial pay. What I’m asking for and what 90% of superintendents across the 800 districts have is to remove the clause for a no fault termination and so I’m entitled to that,” said Manning Campbell.

In mid-June, the board had approved an increase in the superintendent salary that would go from $285,000 to $300,000 which drew criticism. This salary increase will go into effect on January 1, 2024. Stridiron, Greene and Lamar voted against the increase.
