SAVE THE DATE! Washington’s Headquarters State Historic Site is holding the 2024 Newburgh Volunteer Fair on May 11.  They will be looking for not-for-profit organizations of all kinds to participate.  This event is organized by the historic site in partnership with Newburgh Free Library.

Volunteers are a vital part of not-for-profit organizations. The Newburgh Volunteer Fair provides local not-for profit groups with the opportunity to staff a table where they can raise awareness within the community of the important work that they do, network with other community organizations, and recruit would-be volunteers.

All types of not-for-profit organizations are invited to attend the Fair. Free admission will be offered to the Museum and to Washington’s Headquarters’ Hasbrouck house tours on May 11 courtesy of the Friends of the State Historic Sites of the Hudson Highlands, encouraging visitors to experience the important role Newburgh played during the War of Independence.

There will be a youth Poster Contest on volunteerism.  The winning poster will be incorporated into the promotion for the Newburgh Volunteer Fair.

There will also be a number of wonderful other happenings in Newburgh on May 11.  Keep an eye out – they will be sharing more information shortly, including an application for your organization to participate in the Newburgh Volunteer Fair.  Until then, please save the date.

They hope organizations will take advantage of this opportunity to promote their work, recruit new volunteers, and network with other community organizations trying to make a difference in Newburgh. Let’s show everyone how much we support our community, and how many opportunities there are to help make Newburgh strong! Call (845) 562-1195 for more information.

“No Boundaries: Grief, Growth, and Resilience,” the last in a three-part conversation on grief and loss, will take place at Mount Saint Mary College’s Aquinas Hall Theatre on Tuesday, Apr. 30, starting at 5 p.m. The Mount is located at 330 Powell Ave. The event is free, but registration is required. To register, visit https://bit.ly/Grief2023 or call (845) 220-3152.

The event, aimed at healthcare professionals, will begin with a welcoming and networking reception. At 6 p.m., Dr. Kenneth Doka, a licensed mental health counselor and preeminent expert in grief, will share his thoughts on modern grief theories.

The presentation will explore the phenomena of post-traumatic growth and resilience. Whether loss is experienced because someone has passed away or because something else important has been lost, there are strategies that can be applied to help one be resilient through grief.

Professionals who counsel the bereaved or individuals struggling with personal loss will find value in attending the presentation.

Spring seems to be holding off, despite Punxsutawney Phil’s prediction! As always, I close with my prayers for God’s blessings on your heads, my dears.
