I was made aware of an atrocious sign facing Marl Road, 4’ x 6’. With the main words “ F*** BIDEN” prominently displayed; there is also, a subtitle: “and F*** anybody who voted for Biden.”

I have a friend who lives on that road. There are school buses that pass there everyday. There are new people moving in down the road. This sign is just unacceptable!

While the town supervisor and the town board members are seeking legal advice regarding the limits of Freedom of Speech, we are now dealing with ethical behavior. These kind of “neighbors” are impacting the healing that is needed in the Town of Shawangunk. Whether you support the present president or not, he is the US leader. Reminding us daily of your antagonistic feelings does not change that fact.

This sign on Marl is just one of many “in your face” Trump displays along Route 52. As we all start to emerge from the confines of our homes, many travelers will be passing through our town. These signs send a clear obstinate message to those vacationers as well as those people looking for a new place to live. These negative messages are devaluing our property. Presently, we have many residents retiring and thinking about moving. With house sales rising throughout Ulster County, why would anyone want to look in Walker Valley?

Please reach out to the Town Board to express your feelings. In order to move forward, we all have to be working towards reconciliation. All of our community-based organizations take pride in our community and want people to realize what a great town Shawangunk is!
