Agritourism local law is adopted

The Town of Montgomery has geared up for months for agritourism, a new local law aimed to protect farmers, preserve farms, and kickstart Vision 20/20, the town’s Comprehensive Plan. Finally the law has been happily adopted.

Agritourism, or any activity serving the public while happening on a farm, has skyrocketed the past few years. Because the Town of Montgomery is historically known to be home to many farmers, the local government wanted to create legislation to emphasize the right to farm while maintaining the trend of agritourism. This was originally brought up in late 2022 and has been worked on by many different people for months.

In the law are working definitions, Vision 20/20 goals, recommendations within preservation, regulations in the specific agricultural district, specific restrictions on agritourism income, and more.

the agenda to be adopted. After no public comment and agreement of the board, the law passed.

“The comprehensive plan put a lot of work into what they did, and the establishment of this law has been months in the making,” said Town of Montgomery Supervisor Ron Feller.
