Wallkill Town invites community to Annual Touch-A-Truck Event
Wallkill Town Supervisor George Serrano and the Town Board are thrilled to extend an invitation to the community for the annual Touch-A-Truck event. Scheduled for Saturday, May 11, from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m., the event will take place at Circleville Park, located at 50 Creamery Road, Circleville.

This family-friendly event offers an exciting opportunity for children and families to explore a variety of emergency vehicles, fire trucks, and construction trucks up close.

Attendees can get behind the wheel, honk the horns, and learn about the important roles these vehicles play in their community.

In consideration of children with sensitive hearing, a “Quiet Hour” will be observed from 10 a.m. to 11 a.m., providing a calm and comfortable environment for those who may be overwhelmed by noise.

3rd annual Duck Derby
Vision of Wallkill and Wallkill Senior Celebration Committee have teamed up once again for the 3rd Annual Duck Derby on May 11 at Popp Park (3081 NYS Route 208, Wallkill).

Activities start at 12 p.m. including a Birds of Prey Show at 1 p.m. The rubber duckie race is at 3 p.m.

There will be food, games, music, a host of free family friendly activities. Duck Derby “adoption” tickets will be on sale until 2:30 p.m. $5 for one duck or a 6 quack (6 ducks) for $25. First prize is $500, 2nd prize is $250, and 3rd prize is $100.

There are also several Random Duck prizes and the coveted Lame Duck (last duck) prize. Proceeds from the Duck Derby benefit Wallkill High School’s Senior Celebration, the all-night graduation party which enables the senior class to celebrate their graduation in a fun and safe environment. Proceeds also benefit Vision of Wallkill’s scholarship program for graduating seniors.

Wallkill Scouts to host
new member info session
Excitement is building in the Wallkill School District as Cub Scouts and Scouts BSA gear up to welcome new members from grades K-5 and ages 10½-17 respectively.

An upcoming New Member Info Session is set to kick off on Saturday, May 11, from 11 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. at the Modena Methodist Church located at 1928 Route 44/55, Modena.

The event promises an action-packed day filled with outdoor activities, learning opportunities, and of course, fun. Boys and girls interested in trying new things, learning life skills, and becoming good citizens are encouraged to attend.

Newly registered Cub Scouts attending the event will receive a free fishing pole, adding an extra incentive for youngsters to join in the adventure.

For those aged 10½ to 17, Scouts BSA Troop 195, based in Modena, is ready to welcome new members to serve the Wallkill School District and surrounding areas.

Maybrook VFW Post 20604 to host Mother’s Day Dinner Dance
In celebration of Mother’s Day, Maybrook VFW Post 20604 is set to host a festive dinner dance event, promising an evening of music, food, and fun for all attendees.

The Mother’s Day Dinner Dance will feature DJ Mike spinning tunes to keep the dance floor alive, alongside a cash bar offering refreshments throughout the night.

Guests can indulge in a delectable menu, including stuffed loin of pork, tossed salad, roasted potatoes, vegetables, apple sauce, and dessert. As a special treat, moms will receive a complimentary drink to toast to their special day.

In addition to the culinary delights, all mothers in attendance will be honored with a beautiful flower, adding a touch of elegance to the occasion.

The event is scheduled to take place on Saturday, May 11, from 6 to 10 p.m. at the VFW Post located at 209 Main Street, Maybrook.

Dance the night away at dynamic ballroom event

Swing into action and join DJ Johnny Angel for an evening of vibrant rhythms and timeless hits spanning the decades at the upcoming Hudson Valley Dynamic Ballroom event.

The next dance is scheduled for Saturday, May 11, and will continue on the second Saturday of every month. The event will take place from 7 to 10 p.m. at the Catholic War Veterans Hall, located at 161 Center Street, Pine Bush.

Admission to this electrifying dance extravaganza is $20 per person.

Beverages will be available for purchase on-site, while attendees are welcome to bring their own food and snacks to enjoy.

Protect yourself against tick-borne disease
As May marks national Lyme disease awareness month, Pine Bush Library Community Center is gearing up to equip residents with essential knowledge to combat tick-borne diseases.

On Wednesday, May 15, at 6 p.m., community members are invited to attend an informative session on ticks and tick-borne diseases at the Pine Bush Library Community Center, located at 227 Maple Avenue.

Attendees will have the opportunity to learn about the various types of ticks prevalent in the area, the diseases they carry, common habitats, and crucial precautions to minimize direct contact. Expert guidance will be provided on proper attire for outdoor activities and how to conduct thorough tick checks.

Additionally, Cornell Cooperative Extension will offer “Tick Kits” for an optional purchase of $10. These convenient clip-on pouches contain all necessary tools for safe tick removal or to send an embedded tick for disease screening.
