Circleville Middle School to have full-time SRO

At its October 10 meeting, the Pine Bush school board approved a revised contract with the Town of Wallkill that will have a full-time School Resource Officer at Circleville Middle School.

In the public hearing regarding the district’s school safety plan, Joseph Lenz, Assistant Superintendent for Business, said that the contract with Wallkill changes the two part-time SROs to one full-time SRO. That was the only revision to the school safety plan. No one spoke during the pubic comment period of the hearing.

Jennifer Capicchioni, auditor with Nugent & Haussler, delivered a brief report on the school year ending June 30, 2023. She said the district is in good financial condition. Gretchen Meier, board president, thanked Lenz and his staff for their work in producing the district’s financial report.

In his report Lenz said the scoreboard should be installed in time for the homecoming football game, October 27, which is senior night. The district will also rededicate Thomas F. Lonergan Field and celebrate with fireworks.

Lenz also reported that New York State has lowered the eligibility certification for food service. The district has been preparing the associated paperwork, and free meals may be expanded throughout the district as soon as November 1.

Amy Brockner, Assistant Superintendent for Instruction, reported that scores in English as English Language Arts and Mathematics assessment tests have improved. She said that setting goals helped everyone succeed.

Superintendent Brian Dunn praised the fiscal and academic reports. He said the district is a good steward of taxpayer dollars.

The board will hold its next meeting October 24 at Circleville Middle School.
