On June 11, 2023, Elaine Jean Nixon passed away at the age of 90, after a long illness. Elaine was the proud mother of 3 children, Steven Nixon of Middletown, NY, Suzanne Nixon of Ashburn, VA and Glenn Nixon of Montgomery, NY, and the grandmother of 8 grandchildren and 8 great grandchildren, all whom survive her.
Elaine Jean Nixon was born on October 5th, 1932 to Walter and Gertrude Peterson of Leonia, NJ. A graduate of Leonia High School, she was the spirited Captain of the Varsity Cheerleaders and with her beauty capturing all the Homecoming Queen. She attended the Berkeley Secretarial School in NY and after graduation, worked as a secretary for the P. Lorillard Company in NY.
Elaine was married to Robert A. Nixon, Esq, Attorney of Law, for 49 years, who predeceased her in 2002. Pregnant with her first child Steven, she became a stay-at-home-mom, way before the term existed and honored. When her children were teenagers, she went to work for her husband’s law firm, Robert A. Nixon, Esq., as the Executive Secretary until his death.
She will be remembered for her love of her children and grandchildren and her amazing ability to nourish her family with home cooked dinners, 7 days a week, served at 5:00 precisely, for decades. Taking after her mother, she was a talented artist and enjoyed needlepoint, ceramics, painting, and interior decorating.
The family will be having a private funeral and celebration of life. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made to Hospice of Orange and Sullivan C0unties, Inc., hospiceoforange.com/ in her name.
