‘Grease’ is the word in Maybrook!

Maybrook

First, I want to apologize for my column not being in the paper for the last several months. Things seem to be looking up for us getting back to a somewhat normal life.
I want to thank Village of Maybrook Mayor Dennis Leahy for giving us daily updates on the Village website (Villageofmaybrook.com) and on Facebook about the Coronavirus status and openings of businesses.

Congratulations go out to Jim DeMilo and his lovely new bride Fran.  They tied the knot at the Church of the Assumption on Saturday, August 8, then celebrated at VFW 2064 with an intimate dinner.

Congratulations also go out to Boy Scout Troop 236’s latest Eagle Scout Aiden Duran.  Aiden painted fire hydrants and yellow stripes around them throughout the Village of Maybrook.  Thank you Aiden for a job well done!  Aiden is the 80th Scout to attain Eagle for Troop 236.

A very special Congratulations go out to all the Maybrook Valley Central 2020 Graduates. It may have been a weird Senior Year and you may be going on to a very weird College experience, but you DID IT!  I wish I could name you all but I don’t want to leave anyone out by accident!

Now another congratulations from this proud mom and my husband Steve. Congratulations to our daughter Natalie who received her Masters Degree from SUNY Plattsburgh.  She didn’t get to walk down the aisle on May 16, but some very awesome friends helped her celebrate by driving through the neighborhood honking their horns and holding signs!  I want to thank them from the bottom of my heart.

On Friday Night, August 28, there will be a Movie Under the Stars.  GREASE will be the feature, sponsored by Little Pops Pizza.  There will be prizes for the best Male and Female costumes.  I bet we see a bunch of Pink Ladies!  Bring a lawn chair or blanket.  Wear your masks (maybe a nice pink, for those Pink Ladies!).  We will be practicing social distancing!  GREASE IS THE WORD!  (Can you tell I’m a fan???)

The George C. Bullis Community Room is open again with Covid-19 hours.  They are open Monday through Friday from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. for curbside services including copies and faxes.  Please wear masks and social distance.

The Village of Maybrook Government Center has regular hours, Monday through Thursday, 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. and Fridays 8 a.m. to 12 noon.  Please knock on the door when you get there and someone will be out to greet you.

Village election is September 15, 12 noon to 9 p.m. at the Maybrook Senior Center located in Veterans Memorial Park.  Exercise your right to vote!  Ladies, we just celebrated 100 years of that right, so let’s get out there.  You’ll be voting for Mayor and  two trustees this year.  Dennis Leahy is running for Mayor unopposed and Robert Pritchard and Daryl Capozzoli are running for the two Trustee positions.

PLEASE, let me know if there’s a special occasion coming up or you want to wish a Happy Birthday to someone special.  You can reach me at llarosa60@gmail.com.
