Janet Lois Mattia Robinson

Janet Lois Mattia Robinson, known by most of us as Grama Janet, left this planet on November 11, 2023, one week from her 81st birthday. So many words come to mind when we remember Janet: loving, funny, kind, generous, mother, grandma, and especially Spicy!

Born in Newark, NJ, on November 18, 1942, in the shadow of WWII, she was raised to be a “good girl”, married Robert Mandel when she was 18 and had her son, David, when she was 19. She altered her plan to attend college and become a Librarian to be a mother and wife, as was expected during that time. Her life took many paths including learning to “Do the Hustle”, entering the work force and becoming a bond broker on Wall Street, sowing her wild oats, finding love again and ultimately her favorite role, being a Grama.

Janet leaves behind her loving family, children David Mandel(Pierre), Lauren Mandel (Donette Smith), grandson Maxwell Mandel Michalak and his girlfriend (Brianna Livoti), cousin Adam Zeilberger (Michael Jones). Friends that are family: Barbara Jones, Kim Missen, Zachary Jones, Alex Jones, Alexis Collins-Hatfield, Tyler Gonzolez, and all the boys she came to love through Max and Zane. She is welcomed to the other side by her grandson Zane, parents Ralph and Lillian Mattia, brother Michael and nephew J. Aaron Mattia. Special thanks to Julianna Brander for such thoughful, kind care in these last months.
