Max Demar is just having fun

Max Demar started playing baseball when he was about nine years old, and this summer he is playing for Pine Bush’s senior Little League all-stars.

“Just fun,” said Demar, of what he expects from his summer playing baseball.

Demar who started his spring practicing on the Pine Bush JV team, was a catcher this season for the team.

“I played a little bit,” he said, of the spring.

Now he’s catching this summer, and it’s a position he’s had since he started playing the game in elementary school.

“I love it,” he said, of catching. “You’re in the game every play.”

Demar’s summer ball season started strong Friday in the Town of Wallkill when Pine Bush thrashed New Windsor 22-0 in the opening round of the tournament.

Demar will be a junior this fall at Pine Bush, and he wants to play on the varsity team next spring. As Demar was playing for the JV team late this spring, the varsity team went on a late run that landed the Bushmen in the Section 9, Class AA title game in Saugerties.

“Crazy,” said Demar, of the varsity team’s run.

Demar, though, did not see any of it.

“I didn’t get to,” he said. “I still had a lot of baseball.”

When the Little League season ends, Demar will continue to work on his game by improving his overall strength to become a better catcher.
