Rain may have dampened spirits in Walden and Gardiner, but ‘Celebrate Maybrook’ went on as scheduled

Residents of Maybrook gathered at Veteran’s Memorial Park for the village’s annual Celebrate Maybrook, an evening filled with food, music and community fun.

From 5:30 p.m. to 10 p.m., the park stirred with excitement as attendees and their children jumped in bouncy houses, enjoyed snacks from Chilly Willy’s and Maybrook Square and listened to a variety of songs from local band Hudson Blue.

Volunteers of the Maybrook Fire Department also provided face paintings, shirts and firefighter hats to passersby; their hats were particularly popular accessories during the evening.

“We’re almost out of gift bags, we’re on our last box. A bunch of kids have been taking our hats,” said Dakotah Basso, 16, one of Maybrook Fire Department’s volunteers.

The night ended with a fiery fireworks display, lighting up the skies with vivid colors and leaving residents absolutely thrilled.

“It’s pretty cool! I’m having fun, there’s a lot of kids here,” said Gia, 13, a local visitor hanging out with her friends.

“I think it’s mid; it means it’s good but not too good. But I’m having fun,” said Cori, 12, one of Gia’s friends, who is also visiting Maybrook.

Celebrate Maybrook was one of the few events not affected by the weather last weekend. Heavy rains forced cancellation of Gardiner Day and the Walden Harvest Festival, both scheduled for September 30. No rain date is planned for either event.
