Montgomery’s grant application sent to HUD

The Village of Montgomery’s bid for funding to expand the senior center has been forwarded from Orange County to the federal government.

Village Trustee Walt Lindner announced at last week’s village board meeting that he had recently met with Orange County’s Director of Community Development to discuss the village’s Community Development Block Grant (CDBG) Application. In June, the village announced plans to seek funding for a 20 x 40 foot addition to the north end of the Senior Center. Lindner said the village is seeking $185,000.

Eligible use of funds include construction of public facilities and improvements, such as water and sewer facilities, streets, neighborhood centers and the conversion of school buildings for eligible purposes. Each activity must meet one of the following national objectives for the program: benefit low- and moderate-income persons, prevention or elimination of slums or blight, or address community development needs having a particular urgency because existing conditions pose a serious and immediate threat to the health or welfare of the community for which other funding is not available.

Lindner said a decision may not be announced until next May.
