New home sought for senior exercise equipment

Posted

When pickle ball courts were installed in the village of Montgomery several years ago, they came at the expense of some senior exercise equipment that was removed in the process. Now, at least one village residents would like to see that unused equipment restored.

Judith Lozier appeared before the village board last week to make that request. She said she was on a committee some years ago to research and ultimately acquire the outdoor exercise equipment. She said the committee was looking to place the equipment on the Pleasure Ground walkway. Instead it was placed next to the senior center, where the pickle ball courts are now located. She said it’s now sitting unused behind the police department, cover by a wild grapevine. She’d like to see it reinstalled.

“It wasn’t utilized as much as we had hoped,” Mayor Steve Brescia told her.

Still, the mayor promised to speak with the village department of public works about reinstalling it somewhere.

The pickle ball courts, meanwhile, have continued to grow in popularity and will soon be illuminated. It was announced at last week’s meeting that the pickle ball committee had raised $16,000 for lights. They will be controlled by a timer and are scheduled to be turned off every night at 9 p.m.

The village board also accepted a bid of $18,200 to resurface the six pickle ball courts in the village. The money will come out of covid-relief funds the village received through the American Rescue Plan.
