The Montgomery Town Board introduced a new residency local law on Thursday, October 6 that would crack down on the residency-to-work rule.
Technically the Town of Montgomery currently requires that workers also be residents. Town Supervisor Brian Maher admits this hasn’t been happening.
“It’s obviously not something that’s been followed for quite some time. So this local law is to clean up our books to make sure that we change that,” said Maher.
According to a Montgomery legislation residency requirement made back in 1984, this local law applies to anyone who wishes to work in the Town of Montgomery, even those with civil service classification.
The law is set to be discussed further on Thursday, November 3.
