Public outcry needed

Posted

As a Medline rep took questions from residents in Montgomery Village, we were asked to believe many things:

• A 1.3 million square foot building with a minimum of 250 trucks a day, operating 24/7, will be quiet and nearly invisible, less than 1/4 mile from the village.

• No trucks will drive through the village.

• Traffic studies show there will be negligible impact on our local roads.

• The construction phase of this 30 acre building will take only 6-8 months.

• The runoff from the site’s many acres of impervious surface will enter the nearby Wallkill River in a pristine state.

• Medline has promised to “work with” our small, all-volunteer fire department, whose well respected Chief is concerned about fire safety issues inherent in an enormous building filled with cardboard and plastic.

• In the future we will be proud to have Medline as a neighbor.

As residents voiced their genuine concerns about their quality of life, air, and water, noise and light pollution, traffic, and the loss of home values, a recurring theme was: “THIS DOES NOT FIT”!

It’s time for loud public outcry! Attend municipal meetings, participate in the process. THIS IS NOT A DONE DEAL!
