Robert C. “Rabbit” Kiernan, of Montgomery, passed away on Saturday, May 18, 2019 at the age of 73.

Robert was the son of the late John and Christine Hadaway Kiernan, born on May 17, 1946 in Hastings, England.

 From England, he joined his father in Montgomery, traveling with his mother and other war brides on a last minute flight during Christmas of 1946. 

Robert was active in the Montgomery community, serving as Village of Montgomery Police Commissioner from 2001-2003 and as Village Trustee from 2005-2009. Following his time as trustee, he continued to hold court on his favorite downtown bench outside the corner deli with his many special friends. 

Robert was a phenomenal all around athlete, earning 13 varsity letters at Valley Central High School. He was inducted into the Valley Central Athletic Hall of Fame in 2012. Anyone who knew Rabbit will tell you that he truly stood out in his favorite sport, golf. He won several club championships around the Hudson Valley, including Tillson Country Club, Orange County Country Club and Stony Ford. He also won the Times Herald Record Tournament of Champions and has held many course records. His family will always treasure the many wonderful memories they have from when he operated his own golf course in Walden, NY. 

Survivors include his wife, Sherica Kiernan; his sons, Patrick and Brian Kiernan of Montgomery, NY; daughter, Colleen Gleason and husband Aaron of Lagrangeville, NY; stepson, Devontae Bolt; grandson, Sergeant Jonathan M. Kiernan, USMC. Robert was looking forward to the birth of his second grandchild, Baby Gleason due in August. He is also survived by brothers, Marty(Thelma) Kiernan of Gardiner, NY and Kevin Kiernan of Guyton, Georgia; brother in law Melbourne (Evelyn) Ridge of Montgomery, NY and special nieces and nephews. 

Visitation will be Wednesday, May 22, 2019 from 2-4 and 7-9 PM at Overhiser Funeral Home, 78 Union Street, Montgomery. 

A funeral service will be Thursday, May 23, 2019, 111 a.m. at First Presbyterian Church, Clinton Street, Montgomery, NY.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made to the Walden Humane Society, P.O. Box 135, Walden, NY 12586.
