Senior Center offers ballroom dancing lessons

The Otterkill Animal Hospital will have a Spring Pet Adoption and Open House on Saturday, May 4. From 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. they will have Bleu’s K-9 Rescue, Pets Alive, Humane Society of Walden and Helpers with Hearts with adoptable fur friends. There will be pet-themed vendors, raffles, kids activities, pictures, and tours. Anyone interested in a vendor spot email: mhowe@otterkill.com.

Speaking of our pets, the pets are the Humane Society are requesting some towels, blankets and sheets. Please no pillows, pillow cases, or huge blankets. Donations can be left off hours near the lobby door. They are located on Albany Post Road.

The sight of spring flowers popping up is the perfect time to get ready to join your neighbors in the Town of Montgomery Community Garden. Plots are now for rent at the Benedict Farm Park site off Rt. 17K Montgomery. For more info contact Tara at the Montgomery Town Hall, 110 Bracken Rd. or call 845-457-2600 ext. 1287.

Give the gift of life. The Town of Montgomery will be hosting a Blood Drive at the Town Hall, 110 Bracken Rd., on Tuesday April 23 from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Appointments must be scheduled through the Red Cross. All blood types are needed. Please call 1-800-REDCROSS or go to redcrossblood.org.

The Valley Central High School is the location of the 2024 Opportunities Expo for all. It will be held on Thursday April 18 from 10:15 a.m. - 1:15 p.m. and is an outdoor event to explore internships, job opportunities, volunteer opportunities and careers. The Valley Central Scholarship Council announces that the 2024 Scholarships for Seniors applications are now open at the Valley Central High School. Go to the website for more: vcsc1964.com. The applications are due by April 15.

Grab your gal pals for a fun afternoon at a Designer Bag Bingo. It will be on Saturday, April 13 at the Montgomery Senior Center. Doors open at 4 p.m., calling starts at 6 p.m. Must pre-register on-line only, donation for a ticket is $40, or reserve a table of 8 for $320. Go tovcsc1964.com/event-designer-bag-bingo. Must be 18 years or older. This fundraiser benefits the Valley Central Scholarship Council.

Shorts and bathing suit weather is right around the corner.
Dana Estrada Martino is a Zumba instructor who conducts Zumba at the Montgomery Senior Center. The classes are Monday & Wednesdays at 6:30 p.m. and all are welcome to attend. It is $10 per class.

News from the Montgomery Free Library, the Friends of the Library still have a few of their Spring Wreaths available from their auction fundraiser. Stop by and see the offerings to brighten up your walls and doors. I stopped in this week to return my last read : The Personal Librarian, a historical fiction that I enjoyed. Before that I read Laughing With Lucy by Madilyn Pugh who was the female writer ,which was rare in those days, on the staff of I Love Lucy. Not surprisingly I loved it. Little known to me a big Lucy fan, great Lucy back stories.

Also don’t forget the annual library Spring Tea fundraiser scheduled for May 19. Info is at the library. More on this to follow.

The Montgomery Senior Center Book Club met on 3/20 to discuss “Caste: The Origins of Our Discontent” by Wilkerson. Those in attendance felt this an exceptionally worthy read. Next up is Amy Tan’s “The Bonesetter’s Daughter.”

The book is on many book club lists and will surely generate some interesting discussion about life in China in the early 1900’s. Please join with them on May 15 at 10 a.m., at the Senior Center.

A Six Week Ballroom Dance Lesson class will be offered at the Senior Center at the cost of $90 per person for the six weeks. It started on Monday April 1 and there needs to be a minimum of ten people signed up. Contact the Montgomery Senior Center, 457-9367. Great fun and exercise for all.

The Montgomery Senior Center Bowling League will meet every Tuesday at Tarsio Lanes Newburgh NY. Cost is $1 a game plus shoe rental.

Hudson Valley St. Baldrick’s announces an upcoming fundraising event. Join them on April 19 at Lolly’s Airport Inn, 247 Union St. (Rt. 211) starting at 8 p.m., $10 donation at the door. It will be Millennium Night with DJ Mike G. with music from the late 90s early 2000s. There will be a 50/50 and all proceeds will benefit St. Baldrick’s Foundation.
