Six runners and two relay teams qualify for states
Pine Bush’s Shaylen Goslar and Madison Williams qualified for the New York state championship meet in two events at Saturday’s New York State indoor track and field qualifier at the Armory Track and Field Center in New York City.

Goslar met the state standard and qualified for Nike Indoor Nationals when she won the girls’ 1,000-meter run in 2:55.43. She also met the state standard when she finished second in the girls’ 1,500-meter run.

Williams punched her ticket to states when she won the girls’ long jump, reaching 18-4-50. She also qualified for nationals and states when she won the triple jump with a 37-8.5.

Ella Galloway qualified for states and nationals when she finished second in the pole vault by clearing 12-6, and Averie Klein qualified for states when she finished sixth, clearing 10-6.

Plexico Brooks advanced to states when he met the state standard in the high jump at 6-2.

Valley Central’s 800-meter relay team qualified for nationals when they finished second in the 800-meter relay with a time of 1:45.29. They qualified for states with a preliminary time of 1:47.20.

Catherine Primavera qualified for states with a second-place finish in the girls’ 300-meter dash in 41.67 seconds.

Wallkill’s Caitlyn Murphy won the 3,000-meter run with a time of 9:59.48. She also qualified for states, meeting the state standard and winning the girls’ 1,500-meter run in 4:42.74.

The Panthers’ boys’ 800-meter relay team qualified for the state meet with a third-place finish in 4:49.20.


Psilopoulos wins ski title
Wallkill’s Andie Psilopoulos won the girls’ race at the Section 9 Nordic skiing championships on Wednesday at Gore Mountain.

Katrina Brand finished sixth. Graham Driskill was sixth in the boys’ race. All three earned section medals.

All three will compete at the New York State Public High School Athletic Association championship meet at Lake Placid on Feb. 26 and 27.
