Happy April.

As I write this column I have not been officially advised if the floor work on the 2nd and 3rd floors of Village Hall has been completed. Please call 845-778-2177 for information. Apologies for any inconvenience while this necessary work was completed.

Yard waste pick up resumes on Thursdays, beginning April 4 in the Village and continues until December 5, 2024. Yard waste clippings (grass and leaves) may be put in paper lawn bags or in regular garbage cans with the lids off so the garbage company can clearly see it is yard waste in the can. Any sticks or branches must be bundled together in no more than 4 foot lengths.

Just a friendly reminder of the Village of Walden Code on grass/weed cutting: Per the Village Code, Chapter 105, Section 105-2: Growth of weeds, grass or other rank vegetation to a height greater than five (5) inches or any accumulation of dead grass or brush is prohibited. Failure to comply with this code will result in the village undertaking the cutting and/or clean up, and presenting you, as the owner, with a bill for services. Reminder - M. P. B. Knights of Columbus Council No. 9254 sends word that they will hold a Lent is Over Pork Dinner on Friday, April 5.-$10 each. Pre Orders and Take Out Only.

Leave a message by 11 p.m. Wednesday, April; 3 with your order at 845-972-2303 to reserve your dinners. You will be put on the list. Leave your name, phone number and number of meals. Pick up at M.P.B., Fr. Sullivan Hall. between 5 - 6 p.m.

The Walden Community Council will meet on Wednesday, April 10 at the Josephine Louise Public Library at 6:30 p.m. to continue with plans for Walden’s 37th Annual Harvest Festival on September 28, 2024. This event will be held in Walden’s Municipal Square. You will be entertained by live music, vendors, food, Angry Orchard, frog jumping contest, Orange County Sheriff’s Office Child ID, free petting zoo, bounce houses for kids and more.

Join the Walden Community Council on Saturday, April 20, 10 a.m. - 4 p.m. at the John Howland Youth Center, 89 East Main Street, Walden for their annual Spring Bazaar. Many vendors! St. Andrew’s Church, Walden and St. Francis of Assisi Church, Montgomery will host the second annual Community Peeps Diorama Contest on Saturday, April 6 at 3 p.m. Community members are invited to create scenes representing the communities of Walden, Montgomery and surrounding areas using marshmallow Peeps as characters. Gather a box in any size, get creative and build a scene that embodies the spirit of community We have categories for kids, teens, adults, businesses and organizations/groups and great prizes from Sweeter Than Sweet Cupcakes. The Village of Walden Recreation and Parks Department has begun registration for Tennis Lessons that will tentatively begin in May and will run for 5 weeks at the Village Tennis Courts at Bradley Park (48 Samuel E.Wright Way); Register online; Waldenrecreation.sportngin.com. The Josephine-Louise Public Library sends the following news:
Learn how to make “Fondant Roses” with Sharon Corallo on Thursday, April 18, 6:30 p.m. Participants will learn how to make a fancy Florette which can be used to decorate baked treats! April is Autism Awareness Month. Our Book Club pick for this month is “Out of My Mind” by Sharon Draper. We can help you get a copy to read during April. Find out why we love this book! Meet us at the library on Thursday, April 25, 4:30 p.m. This book club is for ages 9 years and up.

Spring Toddler Storytime registration will begin Monday, the week of April 8. Sessions will be held Tuesdays, 10:30 a.m.beginning April 23 through May 28.

Don’t forget to join us tonight, Thursday, April 4, 6:30 p.m. for Professor Thomas Blon’s presentation on the safety and science of solar eclipses, what we’ll see, and photography tips.
