Stephen Atherton Russell, 77, passed away on Monday, July 18, 2022. He was the husband of Barbara J. Russell. They shared 47 years of marriage together.
A life-long resident of Pine Bush, Steve was the son of Helen ("Tippy") and Edward J. Russell. He was a graduate of Pine Bush High School and attended SUNY Cobleskill. Once out of school, he founded "Stephen A. Russell Excavating" and later started his own farm, "Black Hawk Holsteins." He served as the Superintendent of Highways for the Town of Crawford until 2011.
Steve was a Life Member and Past President of the Pine Bush Hook and Ladder Company, a member of the Pine Bush Firemen's Benevolent Association, and a member of the Orange County Volunteer Fireman's Association. He enjoyed model trains, auctions, agriculture, the outdoors, and spending time with his grandchildren. Steve will be remembered for his sense of humor and generosity.
He is survived by his wife, Barbara, his children Neal Russell (Suzy Russell), and Stephanie Granlund (Jonathan Granlund), his brothers Joe and John Russell, and his four grandchildren Emma Russell, Riley Russell, Charles Russell, and Gracie Granlund. He was predeceased by his infant brother, Van.
In accordance with Steve's wishes, there will be a private service for immediate family members only.
