Top 10 Valley Central High School students from Class of 2023

Femi Yusuff, Valedictorian
Femi Yusuff, Valedictorian, will be heading to Carnegie Mellon University to study Electrical Engineering.

Femi has been a member of the Valley Central High School English, Math, Social Studies, Science, Spanish and National Honor Societies. He is part of the Math Team and fundraising chair of the Science Olympiad.

Femi stated “I will remember every day at Valley Central and I aspire to do good and be unequivocally outstanding”.

Codi Rumsey, Salutatorian

Codi Rumsey, Salutatorian, will be attending Franklin Marshall College where she will study Animal Behavior and intends to complete a doctorate in Animal Sciences. She is interested in researching animal impact on environmental conservation.

Codi will remember her friends and the fun they had at Valley Central fondly. Codi has been a member of the Valley Central High School English, Math, Social Studies, Science, Spanish and the National Honor Societies and the Science Research Program. She is the co-president of GLSEN, and participated in the Science Club, Science Olympiad and the American Sign Language Club. Codi was a member of the musical cast of “Curtains, School Edition”.

Sophia Roache
Sophia Roache will be attending Cornell University majoring in Biomedical Engineering. They are interested in prosthetics and tissue regeneration and intend to pursue a masters or doctoral degree eventually.

Sophia has been a member of the Valley Central High School Art, English, Math, Social Studies, Science, Spanish and the National Honor Societies. They are the president of GLSEN and vice-president of Science Olympiad.

Sophia stated “I will remember the teachers who inspired me to pursue my goals.”

Jude Remenar
Jude Remenar will be heading to Skidmore College where he will study Neuroscience. He intends to eventually go to medical school to pursue his doctorate and eventually become a neurosurgeon.

While at Valley Central, Jude has been a member of the Valley Central High School English, Math, Social Studies, Science, Spanish and the National Honor Societies. Jude has been a member of the soccer, lacrosse and track and field teams. He also was co-captain of the indoor track team. Jude has been recognized as a Scholar-Athlete by NYSPHAA. Jude was also a member of the Volunteer Club, Youth in Government, Science Club, Science Olympiad and was treasurer for the Science Research program.

Jude stated “I would not be who I am today without the guidance of my teachers and support of my friends at Valley Central.”

Isabella Frangione
Isabella Frangione will be attending Northeastern University where she will major in Health Sciences. Isabella will be on a pre-health track and intends to become a radiologist.

Isabella has been a member of the Valley Central High School Art, English, Math, Social Studies, Science, Spanish and the National Honor Societies. Isabella is president of the Science Honor Society. She is president of the Set Design club, treasurer of the Yearbook, and was SGA Representative for Junior Class Council and a Dean of the Senior class. She is a member of Science Olympiad and was a co-captain of the Volleyball team.

Isabella stated “I am extremely grateful for all the opportunities that have been offered to me and have helped me achieve many accomplishments.” Isabella said.

Haven Partington

Haven Partington will be attending SUNY Orange. Haven has been a member of the English, Math, Social Studies, Spanish and National Honor Societies. She is also a member of the Shakespeare Club.

“My teachers and friends helped me to be able to achieve my accomplishments,” Haven stated.

Douglas Stickles
Douglas Stickles will be heading to SUNY Cortland where he will major in Adolescent Education and Physics. He would like to be a Physics teacher and hopes to inspire young people to explore STEM careers.

While at Valley Central, Douglas has been a member of the English, Social Studies, Science, Spanish and National Honor Societies. Douglas is the president of the National Honor Society chapter. Douglas is a member of the Science club and is part of the fundraising committee for Science Olympiad. He has been both captain and co-captain of the indoor track and track/field teams.

“I will remember the memories made in the Band Department, the Science Wing, on the Track and Field and the places in between,” Douglas stated.

Alix O’Connor
Alix O’Connor will be attending SUNY Binghamton to obtain her Bachelor’s degree in Performing Arts. Alix aspires to someday be an actor on Broadway or film/television.

During her time at Valley Central, Alix has been a member of the English, Math, Music and National Honor Societies. She served as co-president of the Music Honor Society. She was president of the Musical and had lead roles in both “The Wizard of Oz”, and “Curtains: School Edition”. She performed with the a capella music group, The Voxtones, and was a member of the Shakespeare Club and Future Teachers Club. She also was co-captain of her JV Soccer team and a member of the Girls’ Golf team. She has been recognized as a Scholar Athlete by NYSPHAA.

Alix is grateful for the amazing friends she has made and her wonderful teachers and all the opportunities that were afforded to her at Valley Central.

Fiorella Vega
Fiorella Vega will be heading to SUNY Binghamton where she will study Biochemistry as a pre-med student.

Fiorella has been a member of the English, Math, Social Studies, Science, Spanish and National Honor Societies at Valley Central. She is the treasurer of the Student Government Association and serves as a student representative on the Board of Education as well as the Diversity, Equity and Inclusion Committee.

Fiorella is grateful to the “supportive teachers, staff and friends that had always encouraged her to push through and work harder.”

Kiera McPhillips

Kiera will be attending York College of Pennsylvania where she will be studying Secondary Mathematics Education and has committed to playing Division III Lacrosse. She looks forward to teaching high school Math and hopes that she will be able to coach Lacrosse.

At Valley Central, Kiera has been a member of the Art, English, Math, Social Studies, Science, Spanish and National Honor Societies. She is vice-president of the local chapter of the National Honor Society. She is also a member of the Photo Club, Voxtones and Valkyries a capella groups, the Volunteer Club and the Future Teachers Club. She has been the captain and a member of the Girls Lacrosse team.

“I am so excited to start a new chapter of my life in college, and it wouldn’t be possible without the help of Valley Central High School,” stated Kiera.
