Ulster to establish Land Band Development Corp.

Posted

Last week, lawmakers voted unanimously to establish the Ulster County Land Bank Development Corporation and earmarked $1 million in federal American Rescue Plan Act (ARPA) funds to launch the nonprofit corporation. Legislators also appointed nine community leaders to serve on the board of directors.

The measure, sponsored by Chair Tracey A. Bartels (Gardiner and Shawangunk, District 16), is the first required step in in the county’s application to establish a countywide land bank. The Legislature is now able to move forward and file a full application and articles of incorporation with Empire State Development.

The New York State Land Bank Program permits municipalities to apply for and create land banks in their communities.
