It was a night to honor those who served the Valley Central School District, as the school board honored eight retirees before its regular meeting June 12. The retirees are: Diane Umstetter, William Bacon, Holly Bacon, Elaine Keefer, Lisa Korpics, Clyde Langham, Michelle Annunziata and Michele Catalfamo.

In the brief meeting that followed, Superintendent Evette Avila continued the theme of honoring those who have helped the district, in this case three young volunteers. She thanked the three student representatives on the school board: Lilly Ellison, Fiorella Vega and Kenzye Wolven. She congratulated the three seniors and wished them well as they move on from Valley Central High School.

Avila reported on a number of school activities she had attended since the last board meeting, including reading a book to elementary students. She smiled as she told the board that the students were interested in spiders. They asked her to read a book on spiders, and so she did.

The school board will hold its next meeting, its re-organizational meeting, on July 12.
