WCC meets for first time in seven months

The Walden Community Council met at the Josephine-Louise Public Library on October 14 to prepare for the upcoming holiday season. Those in attendance practiced social distancing and masks were worn.The purpose of this organization is to restore pride in their village and the community in surrounding areas. WCC provides a unified view which can render ideas and/or issues to our village officials.WCC assists with the WaldenHarvest Fest, Music in the Grove, Beautification of the Village, Walden Veterans Memorial Park activities, provides a Liaison to Village Government, maintains a Facebook page and website, and much more.
New members are encouraged to attend monthly meetings. WCC will hold their next meeting at the Josephine-Louise Public Library on November 11, 7 p.m. For information call Sue at 778-3532.

Walden Historical Society members send Happy Birthday greetings to Nancy Ohlmer on October 21. Enjoy your special day, Nancy.

The Walden Library sends word that Bethany Hardy, a Library Page will celebrate her birthday on October 24 and Shirley Homan, Library Clerk will celebrate her birthday on October 30. Special Birthday greetings are on their way! Enjoy!

James Revella, son of Village Manager John Revella and Perla Revella is looking forward to celebrating his birthday on November 1. Family and friends are ready to wish him a very “Happy Birthday”!

Mark your calendar to participate in the Walden Historical Society fundraiser. Every last Tuesday of the month when food is ordered for takeout at Franco’s Pizzeria and Italian Restaurant, 4 Oak Street, Walden, Franco will donate 20% of your meal purchase to the society!
Place your order on Tuesday, October 27, 5 - 9 p.m. to participate. Required coupons available on line, at the Josephine Public Library, or by calling 778-7772.

The Coldenham Garden club will meet on Thursday, November 5, 1 p.m. at the Coldenham Fire Department Hall. Members are requested to bring their lunch and place settings. Beverages and dessert will be provided. Social distancing and mask protocol will be followed.

The Walden Humane Society, 2489 Albany Post Road, Walden will hold their next indoor yard sale on Saturday, November 7, 9 a.m. - 3 p.m. You will find many treasures. Face masks are required. Keep in mind all proceeds benefit the care of the animals at the shelter.

The Village of Walden Recreation and Parks Department will host Walden’s Drive Thru Trick or Treat at James Olley Park, 98 Sherman Avenue on Saturday, October 31, 4 - 6 p.m.
You must enter the park at the top of Sherman Avenue entrance, then drive to receive your bag of goodies. You will exit out of the park on Penny Lane. You will NOT get out of your car.

For information call 778-2177 X1524. Trick or Treat will occur at the discretion of each individual family from 6 - 8 p.m. as visits are made to residents who participate by turning on their porch lights. Please use caution and wear masks.

Very excited to receive the news that the Walden Rotary Club in conjunction with the Town of Montgomery Food Pantry will hold their 3rd Annual Adopt a Coat event. The event will take place on Saturday, November 21, 11 a.m. - 3 p.m. in the parking lot of Hunter Insurance, 70 Oak Street, Walden.
Patrons are requested to park in the parking lot behind Fanco’s Italian Restaurant and the Hannaford lot adjacent to the location of the event. Gently used coats that have been quarantined will be displayed. Volunteers will be on hand to assist. All attending must wear masks.
Please begin to donate coats at Guardian Self Storage, 151 Orange Avenue, Walden. They will be open to receive coats Monday - Friday, 1 - 5 p.m. and Saturday 9 a.m. - 4 p.m. Let’s all join in donating coats and provide those in need a Happy Holiday Season.
In addition to coats and bags of food, a supply of Hannaford gift cards will be distributed.

Uncle Mike Hansen of Country 107.3 WRWD will be on site to provide musical entertainment.

The Josephine-Louise Public Library sends the following news:
The 2020 Census Survey deadline has passed. The deadline to fill out the survey was cut off on October 15. The Village of Walden response rate was 68.1% and the Town of Montgomery overall was 71,1% Thanks to all who took the time to fill out their surveys!
The Chess Club will be back in action in November. They will meet on Saturdays, 11 a.m. until 2 p.m., third floor, Colonel Bradley Room. Masks are mandatory.
Just a few reminders: Pumpkins will be available at the library to pick for our Pumpkin Decorating Contest! Make sure to call and reserve one while supplies last. Take a picture of your “creation” and send it to wal@rcls.org for your chance to win a prize! Contest will end Friday, 5 p.m., October 31.

Miss Beth’s Halloween-themed Book Walk is on display around the Municipal Building until Monday, November 2. Take a walk and send us your photos and comments to the e-mail listed above. We will post them to our Facebook page (with permission).
Join in our Read for the Record on Thursday, October 29. This is an annual movement promoting early literacy. The story of the day will be “Evelyn Del Rey is Moving Away” by Meg Medina. Come to the library that day and have your own read-a-loud and take home a Friendship Bracelet Kit. Also look for a Live Reading Event with Miss Beth at 10 a.m. that same morning on our Facebook page.
