William D. Besser of Walden, a longtime resident of the area died Monday, August 15, 2022, in Montgomery.  He was 86. 

The son of the late William and Eleanor Besser, he was born May 13, 1936 in Brooklyn.

He worked at several manufacturing facilities in the Hudson Valley, ultimately retiring from Delford Rubber in Middletown, after a long career at Majestic Weaving in Cornwall.

He was a member of Trinity Evangelical Lutheran Church, Marine Corps League and the American Legion.

He was a passionate fisherman, and shared that enjoyment with his children and grandchildren. He served as a coach in the Walden Little League and was an usher and Sunday School teacher at Trinity.

He was proud of his service in the United States Marine Corps, where he was an aviation technician. 

Survivors include his wife of 42 years, Karen, at home, son William J. Besser and wife Joann of Walden, daughter Joy L. Besser of Lewisburg PA, daughter Jacqueline Heubach and husband Mike of Walden, son Timothy Besser and wife Patricia of Milford, Pa., son Paul Besser and wife Kim of Calabash, NC, brother Dick Besser of Boynton Beach, FL, grandchildren, nieces and nephews.

He was predeceased by his son Malcom Scott “Chip” Besser, brother, Arthur Besser, and sisters Gladys Besser, Caroline Sarvis and Irene Luedicke.

Visitation will be Friday, Aug. 19, 5 - 8 p.m. at Millspaugh Funeral Home, 22 Bank St. Walden.

Funeral services will be held Saturday, Aug 20, 11 a.m. at Trinity Evangelical Lutheran Church, Route 208, Walden. 

Burial will be at Orange County Veterans Cemetery, Goshen, at 11 a.m. Monday Aug. 22.

In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to St. Jude Children’s Hospital.
