On September 15, several dozen Cornwall Public Library patrons gathered at Cornwall’s Sands Ring Homestead for a special book talk with local author Julia Dahl. The book was "The Girl From Greenwich St." (by Lauren Willig) a novel of America’s first murder trial, inspired by the true story of the murder of 22-year-old Elma Sands in 1799. The historical novel offers a peek into a little-known scandal that connects Cornwall to two of America’s founding fathers (Hamilton and Burr). Participants were able to take a tour of the homestead and property, which set the stage for Dahl’s discussion, in the garden. Dahl is the author of five novels, and a former crime and justice reporter for CBS News, and teaches journalism at NYU.
