The Town of Highlands will host an important event on Friday, Sept. 20 as part of the upcoming region-wide Climate Solutions Week. Anyone in our region who was impacted by the great flood of July 9, 2023 is invited to participate.

The topic is “Flood Resilience in the Hudson Valley: A Community Conversation with Jessica Kuonen, New York Sea Grant”.

Kuonen will speak about the “MyCoast NY” tool for collecting and viewing crowd-sourced photos of flooding, and the Hudson Valley Flood Resilience Network which can help communities plan for the next surprise and connect with resources we may not be aware of.

The community conversation will be facilitated by Kurt Hahn, Emergency Management Coordinator for the Town of Highlands, the Village of Highland Falls and Director of Emergency Management at the Cornwall Office of Emergency Management.

“Together, we will consider what kind of communications, planning and response tools we need to help us predict and prepare for future events,” Olga Anderson, chair of the Town of Highlands Citizens Environmental Advisory Committee, said. “We look forward to a lively discussion with our friends and neighbors.”

This meeting will be held at Town Hall at 254 Main St., Highland Falls, starting at 7 p.m. Contact Anderson at 917-509-1200 with any questions.
