Learning about our town

Posted

As part of our Little Friends Preschool’s School Age Sumer Camp Program we sponsor a field trip around the Marlborough community to help our campers to understand what is involved in the day to day activities that support the safe and efficient operation of our towns.

This summer we visited the Marlboro Post Office, the Highway Department, the Police Station, the Marlborough Court Room, the Milton Library, the Milton Train Station, the Town Park, the new Community Building and the Marlboro Fire Station.

While we were at the Post Office, the Police Station and the Court Room this year we were lucky enough to have a community helper explain how their services operate. Miss Christine and Miss Anne Marie at the Post Office explained the path of a letter and gave us some informative coloring books that helped us to understand how the Post Office works. Officers Fulton and Greaven at the Police Station took time out from their busy day to introduce us to all of the personnel who help to keep our community safe and to explain the equipment that they use to make sure that our schools and homes are protected. We were particularly impressed by the ballistic shields and drones that our Police Department can deploy in the event that there is an active shooter detected at our schools. These high technology innovations assured me that our Police can and will protect our children. The children loved the Police cars!

We would like to thank our Marlborough Community helpers for all that they do and for helping us to understand how important it is for communities to work together. Our children are our greatest asset and our best hope for our future. Their support in helping us to educate them is so appreciated.
