By Joe D’Onofrio, Highland Falls
I would like to take a moment to tell each and every member of the Highland Falls Fourth of July committee how proud I am of what we accomplished together this year. The following worked so hard for six months to put together a grand Fourth of July: Stella Bailey, Nancy Sporbert, Pete Carroll, Aaron Falk, Aleena Olivia, Kathy Rochet, Tim Meakim and Fran Camporeale.
Independence Day celebrations had to be scaled back due to weather and we were all disappointed, but still each of the committee members gave their time, their energy and their heart to make sure Highland Falls could celebrate America’s 250th birthday on September 6.
You are truly invaluable. What you do may not always be seen by everyone, but I see it, and I know how much dedication goes into making these events happen. After 35 years of being involved with the celebration, I can honestly say that working alongside people like you is what keeps the spirit of the Fourth of July alive in Highland Falls. Thank you from the bottom of my heart for everything you did and for believing in what this celebration means to our community.
As we look forward to 2027, I want you to know how proud I am to have each and every one of you by my side. What we accomplish is bigger than one person, it is the result of a committee that cares deeply about the community and is willing to give of its time and energy to make something truly special happen. I am already looking forward to January, when we will sit down together and begin the work of making the Fourth of July another celebration our community will be proud of.
I look forward to many more Fourth of July together. With great pride and gratitude, and love for this community.
