Broadway business vandalized

Tony’s Newburgh Lunch, a City of Newburgh staple along the Broadway corridor, was vandalized by an unknown assailant on the evening of November 27 into November 28. Wood boards now replace the glass but the business assures its customers that it is still open and operating.

Tony Tsangarakis, owner of the business, said he came into work before 6 a.m. on Tuesday, November 28 and found broken glass from his window that had been damaged. The glass was said to have been broken by a rock hurled at the window. Nothing was reported stolen from the store according to Tsangarakis.

According to Tsangarakis, he recalled that years ago, a bar had operated next door to his business which would result in some damages by the patrons that would come out but that bar has since closed. A case of vandalism and damage like this has not happened for some time for his business.

City Chief of Staff Mike Neppl said the incident appeared to be a random act of vandalism.
