Brooke S. Elkan-Moore, of New Windsor, NY entered into rest Tuesday, August 18, 2026. She was 75. She was preceded in passing by her husband Larry Moore.
Daughter of the late George Koechlein and Barbara Moore she was born May 16, 1951 in Summit, NJ.
A longtime area resident, Brooke was a retired self-employed professional photographer in the New Windsor area. She served as Director of the Museum Village of Old Smith’s Clove in Monroe, NY. Brooke was also a Master Gardener and a member and leader with the Orange County Master Gardeners Club and the Cornell Cooperative Extension Master Gardeners Association, where she generously volunteered many hours sharing her knowledge, teaching new gardeners, and encouraging others to find joy and confidence in working with the soil.
Brooke’s commitment to service extended beyond gardening. She was a devoted lover of Newfoundland dogs, she was actively involved with several Newfoundland breed organizations, including the Newfoundland Club of America. Through her involvement, she enjoyed promoting responsible stewardship of the breed and building lasting friendships within the Newfoundland community.
Brooke was a strong advocate for those who had lost their ability to speak and relied on artificial means of communication. She met with and counseled new patients, offering compassion, practical guidance, and connections to resources and services within the laryngectomy community. She was known for her generosity, willingness to help others, and dedication to causes that improved the lives of both people and animals.
Brooke is survived by her extended family of brothers Kevin Koechlein of Anacortes WA, Gregg Koechlein of Reno NV and David Elkan of Fort Bragg CA. She had a stepdaughter Monica Shupe of Greeneville TN and stepson Randy Moore of Council Bluffs IA. She had five step grandchildren Tim Shupe, Christine Shupe, Jordan Shupe, Giovanni Moore and Sarah Moore as well as niece Alyssa Koechlein and nephew Trenton Elkan.
Private cremation has taken place at Cedar Hill Crematory.
Plans for a Memorial Service will be announced for a later date.
