Newburgh City Council unanimously approved Tuesday, May 28 for the City Manager to apply for and a United States Department of Justice Bureau of Justice Assistance grant. The grant, under the 2024 Bulletproof Vest Partnership, would be in the amount of $10,200 with a fifty percent match to be paid out of city police funds.

At the May 23 work session, Police Chief Brandon Rola explained the grant amount would cover the period of April 1, 2024 through August 31, 2026. The police department requested funding for 12 vests at the cost of $10,200. The fifty percent match ($5,100) would be derived from the budget line titled “uniforms” under the police department section.
